A message from Hallie's family:

Dear Friends,
As many of you know seven and a half years ago, our beautiful daughter suffered a severe brain injury when her heart stopped during her birth. This has left Hallie with multiple challenges including Cerebral Palsy which limits her mobility. We have been blessed with many friends, who have helped us on our journey of recovery. One of Hallie’s respite providers,Lindsay, has taken the time to enter our Hallie in a contest to win a Wheel Chair accessible van. The modification to accommodate her power chair is very costly, and this would be a tremendous blessing to our family. Please forward this to your friends and family who you think might be able to spare a minute of time to help our family.

Last year Lindsay entered Hallie to win a van. We entered very late in the contest, but with the support and help of great family and friends, we were still able to get approximately 5000 votes in 5 short days. Hallie has taught us to never give up, so we have decided to give it another chance. If everyone can be so kind to pass the following links along, it would be a huge help to my family.
*** For more info, please find Hallie Ganderton on Facebook. For anyone who is able to help, please share our links to email contacts, facebook friends, twitter friends, blogs... etc.
Please vote daily from March 11- May 10th
Thanks in advance your support is greatly appreciated.
Sincerely,
 The Gandertons

Happy 2013!

Bowtie Quilt 007
Happy New Year Everyone!    I’ve been quiet here on the Sideroad but I have been stitching.  Here is a little 18”x21” Bowtie mini I made for Christmas.

Borders are always tough for me so here is how I did this quilt.

Quilt Border Design 1
I copied the above quilting design on a piece of light plastic with a permanent marker.  Actually, a plastic cutting mat from the dollar store.  Then I cut out half the design as in the picture below.
Stencil 002

Using my invisible quilt marking pen I traced half the design then flipped it over and traced the other half.

I used my walking foot to do the quilting.   This worked so well I will be looking for more quilting designs to use this easy peasy method.   What do you think?

If I can get my old PC to co-operate I hope to do some more blogs posts soon.  Thanks, for stopping by and all the best in 2013 to all of you.

Paper Pieced Pear

Autumn Greetings, my friends.  I hope this finds you well.  It’s been awhile and it’s lovely to be back.

I recently challenged myself with a small paper pieced project.  It was done in four sections that were then sewn together.  When I say challenged myself I really mean it.

The pattern was from a 1996 McCall’s Quilting Magazine.

A larger project called ‘Partridge In a Pear Tree’.

My little pear was the ‘practice’ piece.

I pulled all the fabrics from my stash and was thrilled that the raspberry colour  for the inner border and binding matched the colour found in the Thimbleberries greens.

Labelling my quilts is not one of my favourite jobs.  So I used the freezer paper method to print off a few.  Then cut them into stripes, sewed into  ‘tubes’, turned right side out and pressed the seam to the centre back.  Then I machine stitched the two ends to the seam allowance of the quilt layers then when I had hand stitched my binding these ends where covered up.  There no hand sewing on a label.  Easy peasy.

Paper piecing can certainly drive you mad but the results can be well worth it.

Thanks for visiting,

Diane
